Somkiat Chantra est sur le point de devenir le premier pilote thaïlandais à courir en MotoGP. Entre 2019 et 2024, il a couru en Moto2 avec l'Idemitsu Honda Team Asia. En 2022, il est entré dans l'histoire en devenant le premier pilote thaïlandais à remporter un Grand Prix, en s'imposant en Indonésie. Un an plus tard, il remporte une nouvelle victoire au Grand Prix du Japon à Motegi.
